摘　　要：Is it more blessed to give than to receive? To investigate whether reciprocity styles exert an impact on career success among men and women, multisource data were collected from a cohort of government employees in Taiwan. Analytical results rendered support to research hypotheses by discovering that being a giver as well as being a male were positively related to pay grade advancement. Moreover, the effect of giving on promotion was statistically discernible only among women, since female non-givers, compared to their counterparts, were most likely to fall behind in the career race. Suggestions are thus offered to redress the imbalance between men and women and to better connect the practices of human resource management with the moral base of benevolence in public service.
